Mission & Vision
At “Willsam Books: A Charity For Kids By Kids”, our mission is to ignite a lifelong passion for reading. We will foster a love of literature by providing free books to inner city children ages 0-18. Our charity partners with dedicated teachers and schools to inspire and motivate young readers to read and discuss literature in vibrant learning environments where stories come alive. By nurturing a community of enthusiastic readers, we aim to empower children with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and increased confidence that will enrich their lives.
History
Will and Sam are two brothers from Boston who have always loved getting lost in books. Growing up in a home where reading was encouraged and books were always within reach, they learned early on how powerful stories could be – opening doors to new ideas, big dreams, and endless possibilities.
Willsam Books was inspired by a simple but powerful moment. A close family friend – a fifth grade teacher – shared on Facebook that she needed copies of the book Ghost by Jason Reynolds for her students. What moved us wasn’t just that a teacher had to ask for books on social media, but how quickly people stepped up to help. That moment showed us both the need and the generosity that exists – and it became the foundation for Willsam Books. Will and Sam began to realize that many kids in their own city didn’t have access to the books they took for granted. Some had never owned a book of their own. That didn’t sit right with them – so they decided to take action.
With the support of their mom, they founded Willsam Books: A Charity For Kids By Kids. Will and Sam believe that reading doesn’t just build knowledge – it builds confidence, creativity, and a stronger community. And they’re proud to be part of a generation of kids helping other kids write better futures, one book at a time.
Community Impact
Willsam Books will help bridge the literacy gap by putting high-quality books directly into the hands of children who need them most. By fostering a love of reading early on, the nonprofit will support stronger educational outcomes, boost confidence, and inspire imagination in young minds. Through partnerships with local schools and teachers, Willsam Books will create a lasting ripple effect — strengthening families, classrooms, and entire communities across Boston and beyond.
